do you ever make up words?

I do. It's something I do more than I would like to admit.

Today's made up word of the day: Blargy. (blar-gee). I find it useful when you are trying to force a closet door open that is absolutely stuck.

So something scary kind of happened to me last night. Keep in mind, you are reading the words of the world's biggest hypochondriac. Last night, while Steve and I were watching the weekly marathon of the Office, we bumped heads, pretty hard. I hit the back of by head, he the side of his. Long story short, the space between my eyes is now swollen and I can feel my entire head pulsing. I'm terrified my brain is bleeding or something and this will make the headlines of some freak accident.

Some things I have been enjoying today:
  • That 70's Show
  • Peppered Beef Jerkey
  • Driving with the windows down.
  • New music downloads
  • America's Funniest Home Videos
  • Naps
  • Eating dinner with Steve at our little kitchen table.
  • Peeling Steve's sunburn. Go ahead, think I'm sick, but I LOVE this!!
  • It's already Wednesday.
  • Lipton's Green Tea.
Some things I have NOT been enjoying today:
  • Thinking my brain is bleeding/suffering concussion/some severe head injury.
  • Working.
  • Sitting in our hot, humid apartment.
  • Watching the lady on the TV letting her cat lick the inside of her mouth. *Puke*. Really?
  • Every single Facebook update being about Twilight.

first post from 21 year old Kaleena.

Why do I always decide to blog when I'm eating a popsicle and it's nearly impossible for me to type and tend to my delicious, cold treat? Good question.

To tell you the truth, I haven't been in the blogging mood lately.

My birthday was the best. I don't know any other way to put it. We went up to Pineview to camp for the weekend. I didn't want to come back. :( I get attached to things way to easily. We did a lot of boating and spending time in the water. I have the red nose and shoulders to prove it. Unfortunately, my camera battery died so I wasn't able to take any pictures of my awesome weekend.

original vs the cover

I have close to a bajillion 'all time favorite songs'. Whenever one of them comes on, I will claim it is my one-and-only-all-time-favorite-song. I am waaaaayy too into music to just have ONE favorite song.

With all this being said, this song, Only You by Yaz, IS my all-time-favorite-song. Tee-hee.

However, Joshua Radin, did a cover of this song. Which one do you like better?

here comes the bride...

Yesterday was entirely consumed by Brooke's wedding. I was/am exhausted/tuckered/pooped/vegging/fatigued/tired/ragged, however you want to put it. I'm tired. Just know that. And logically instead of taking a nap, I hopped onto my snoop bloggy blog. I don't know why I'm making the complaints here, Brooke and her husband are probably 1000x exhausted more than me.

Everything turned out so nicely. Brooke's wedding dress, hands down, is one of the prettiest dresses I've seen, EVER. Her colors were spring green, turquoise and yellow. Everything at the reception screamed Brooke.

Oh and before you look at these pictures and think ' hm, I didn't know Kaleena was a sasquatch' the girls I'm standing by in the pictures are barely 5" and  alarmingly petite.

i'll think of summer days again, and dream of you.

It's officially Summer. I miss having a four-season climate. Here in Utah, it goes straight from Winter--->Summer--->Winter--->Summer. You get the picture.

My best friend, Brooke is getting married tomorrow. It's kind of an elusive feeling for me. I mean, I've had people close to me get married before, like my two oldest sisters, but for some reason this seems different.

She was my best friend all throughout Jr. High and High School. Maybe that has something to do with it. I am very happy for her, I can see how happy and excited she is. I guess it will really hit me tomorrow when I'm AT the wedding, standing there in my bridesmaid dress, seeing her in her pretty, white dress, visiting with all the guests.

Me and Brooke and our other best friend, Janessa, went out for frozen yogurt tonight. You know, one last time before she is married.

Congratulations, Brooke. I think I am more excited than you are.

-------------

My car got broken in to last night. I'm not even upset and here is why.

My car is nothing fancy. It gets me to point A to point B... with the occasional point C. It's had it's fair share of bumps and bruises and I still just adore the thing. It's a 93' Ford Explorer, my very first car. I have the same bond with it as most people do with their children. Well, I leave nothing special in my car, it doesn't even have a fancy stereo; So, I was floored when I discovered some nasty intruder had been in there last night. What is it about a beat up car, with a dented front bumper, that already has the doors unlocked say "there is probably something of value in here!!"? Beats me.

Take that, intruder!

what? how? why?

See that shoe? Yeah, that is the led part of the pencil. Some genius carved that. Why can't I do stuff like that? Instead of being unbelievably talented at one thing, I have just a bunch of little things I am 'alright' at.

I can't decide which one is the win.

The WTF moment for the day: as I was just browsing the web, I saw a side advertisement that said 'learn to draw suggestive cartoons for 12.99 a month!'

now his hat is on backwards, he can show you his tattoos.

CAKE came to town last night.

I wish I would could put into words how unhappy I was when I saw that no cameras were allowed. It's alright though. The incredible show made up for it. Only a couple tickets shy from a sold out show, people sat on blankets and grass on the side hill of Library Square for an hour waiting for CAKE. Do you know what this meant? We had an entire hour of people watching. ONE HOUR. Let me tell you, CAKE definitely has a unique variety of fans. Me and Steve also played the name game, where you guess what people's names are.

They opened with Comfort Eagle, came back out for an encore and gave us Rock & Roll Lifestyle, Never There, and Stickshifts & Safety Belts. I was one happy girl when I heard Comfort Eagle, that happens to be one of my favorites. They even gave us a fifteen minute bathroom/go get more treats break. I like them even more.

Back to the people watching: Being a concert and all, they had a lot of speakers, electronics, cords, wires, etc. Right by our seats there was a mess of cords streaming through the grass. The hour before the concert, fans kept getting snagged and losing their balance but it never actually took somebody down. Until one man. One unfortunate man. He was about 300+ pounds walking with two beers. We will call him Larry. Larry with the two beers was so distracted by all the happenings on the hill at Library Square he couldn't pay attention to the cords laid out on the grass in front of him.

Snag.

Trip.

Beers flying in the air.

Larry face down in the grass.

The people watching stopped there, CAKE came on right after Larry and the cord dispute. The crowd cheered, sang along, clapped, ooo'd, awe'd, and one lucky fan was given an apple tree.

i realized something today.

On Saturday mornings when I'm  wandering around the blog world, I visit a lot of different blogs. I like it because it gives me ideas, I come across some interesting bloggers, and it passes time. Then I realized something...

Blogging is kind of like high school with interactions on blogs and email instead of face to face. Let me  tell you why I feel this way.

There are cliques. These are the bloggers who comment on each other's blogs and don't let others in easily . And the cool bloggers get together with other cool bloggers and take pictures with each other's dogs and babies.

Then, there are the bloggers who try to buy friends and followers with giveaways. (However, if you do giveaways AND comment on others' blogs, you aren't considered as one of these people). These are like the people who would buy their friends.

Comments are like passing each other notes in class. The cool ones will get the most.

Low and behold, as always, there is the gossip behind each other's backs, which in the blogging world is writing posts about others and not telling them it's about them.

Followers/subscribers are the members of our "crowd." When you lose one, it slightly seems like life is a little more depressing and you wonder what you did/said to make someone stop being your friend. You start think about past "conversations" you've had, if you were offensive, etc.

There are the ones like me, who don't have a clique. I have blogger friends but nothing so obviously cliquey. Just as I was in high school.

a few things i've been wanting.

Work is painfully slow today. Which is kind of good for a Friday, since my productivety hardly even exists on Fridays.

My birthday is in seven days. When my birthday is coming up, I get into the mode of thinking 'I could ask for that for a present' or 'maybe i'll buy this for myself... for my birthday of course.' One thing I REALLY want is a retro flip clock. I am starting to collect clocks and I don't have one like this, and it's just adorable. But it gets better. I was at Big Lots getting some hangers (they have them at like 50 for two bucks) and I found a cute, little red one! For eight bucks. So, I did my *see how much I really want it* method, which is, leave it there and if I regret not getting it the whole way home and go back and it's there waiting for me. I get it.

Another thing that has been on my mind. Since last night. At about 1 AM. Crab. I got the biggest craving for some crab last night and I've craved it ever since. Long story short, we are having crab tonight.

p.s. I just found some lotion in the very back corners of my desk drawer that I haven't used in a long while. So I thought, oo! Put some on! Well, a very strong smell and a headache later, I remember why it was in the very back of my desk drawer.

i don't want to be a procrastinator anymore.

Every morning while I'm getting ready for work, I make lists in my head of everything I am going to when I get home from work.

I get off work, drive home, walk through the door and suddenly all those little lists don't exist anymore.

I still DO stuff. Just not the things that NEED to be done. It is a vicious cycle that will probably never end.

Here's to getting over my procrastination... I'll get to it later.

-i know i've posted this quote before, but i love it so much, i just have to post it again. and hey, it's my blog, so ha!

ps. is it weird i've been referencing my blog in conversations and thoughts as 'snoop bloggy blog'? i think it is.

*flash* BOOOOM!

Right now there is a ferocious lightening and thunderstorm going on in Salt Lake.

A quick flash lights up our living room, me and Steve look at each other, wait for the thunder and CrrrrraaacckBangBOOOOOMcrackRumble! You hear a loud bang that you can feel deep in your chest. We have all the windows open so we can hear the rain pouring onto the streets.

This storm makes me feel like I'm 12 years old again. Giddy and a little scared all at the same time.

Am I lucky enough for this to last all night, have a lightening rod strike my work, cause of mass power outage and cause me to have a day off? Sad to admit, but I don't think I'm lucky enough to happen.

people watching.

I like to people watch.

I don't mind when the hostess at a restaurant tells us, 'the wait will be 45 minutes'. That means 45 minutes I get to people watch.

I'm so amused with the way people interact with each other. Or the people who don't interact at all. I like to hear the things people choose for topic of their conversation. Seeing different mannerisms. Hearing different laughs. Observing the way parents handle their children (or don't pay attention to them at all).

It's so entertaining how different we all are as individuals yet we are still similar as humans. I hope that makes sense.

I always wonder too what these people were doing before they were here. Or what they are doing after. If they are happy. Lonley. Sad. Going through a mid-life crisis. Missing someone. We are surrounded by people everyday that we will never know anything about!

bits of my weekend.

i wish this was my agenda for the day.

Sadly, it's the opposite.

to collage or not to collage.

I go through phases.

I go through food phases, clothes phases, music phases, hair phases, reading phases... you get the picture.

Well, one of my phases once upon a time (around 8th to 10th grade) was making collages. I would flip through magazines for countless hours cutting and ripping out cute letters, pretty outfits, fun words, photos of odds and ends etc.

When I was done rummaging, the place I created my first collage was my closet door. It was the first time I felt like I had expressed myself that really reflected my thoughts and showed a little bit about me. And it made me feel proud. I couldn't let it end there, before I knew it I was making collages on all my school notebooks, my walls, I even made some picture frames out of them. I keep kicking myself for not taking pictures or anything of my creations.

I've been having a rather strong itch lately to do something new to our apartment here on R Street. Being the restless, fickle person I am, I can't let anything stay the same for too long. In fact, it drives me CRAZY to have anything the same for long periods of time. My plan is to somehow create some collages that look decent for a wall hanging and/or picture frame without looking so 'teenager' ish. It will really add the touch to our home that I'm looking for. I'm actually pretty excited to start this project. If I wasn't so exhausted from the weekend and comfy on our couch, I would try to squeeze out an ounce of energy to do a happy dance.

music this summer in salt lake.

Salt Lake hit the jackpot this summer for concerts. Each week I get the newspaper, City Weekly and I was browsing through the Live From Salt Lake section and wow.

We are going to have a busy summer with all of our concert attending. Here is a few of the many in the line up:

Friday June 18 - Josh Ritter
Saturday June 19 - Cake
Wednesday June 23 - BACKSTREET BOYS!!
Thursday July 8 - Modest Mouse
Sunday July 11 - Brandi Carlile
Tuesday July 13 - Paul McCartney
Saturday July 17 - Ben Folds
Monday July 19 - Kings of Leon
Wednesday July 21 - 311
Sunday August 15 - The Swell Season
Friday August 20 - Norah Jones
Thursday August 26 - She & Him
Monday September 6 - KC & The Sunshine Band

That is a pretty incredible list. We hope we get to cross off all of those on our list. As sad as we are to admit, we have missed the boat to Paul McCartney. Aside from being sold out, the cheapest tickets we found were about 80  bucks.

ps. Don't act like you're not jealous about the  Backstreet Boys.

five question friday.

It's not Friday anymore. It's 1AM on Saturday, but to me it's still Friday. I saw this over at this blog. I enjoy reading other blogger's lists, but I never fancied participating myself. But hey, it's late, i'm bored, and you better believe I'm going to do it. Take that!

1. What do you think makes a good friend, or friendship?
Trust. The ability to be yourself without feeling uncomfortable. Being a better friend in return. Able to tease and goof around. This is going to sound cheesy, but sometimes I like cheese... A friend is someone who walks in, when everyone else walks out.

2. What is the last thing you bought & later regretted?
Hm. I rarely regret my purchases because I tend to take my time contemplating if I need it and all the ways I am going to benefit. I am going to have to go with a light pink ruffle camisole from Wet Seal with tiny black polka dots. Sounds adorable? Sounds cute? Well, as it turns out, I can make it look like a maternity top. No exchanges allowed. Booo!

3. Have you ever had a prank played on you?
Always. I am the person who looks up at the ceiling when people tell me they wrote gullible on the ceiling. Also, I play jokes on people all the time and they have to seek their revenge somehow.

4. What is your favorite theme park?
Great America in San Francisco.

5. Have you ever seen someone else give birth?
Nope. Nope. Nope. No, no, no. If you know me, you know that anything with birth, labor, nursing, makes me uncomfortable. I am working on this.

kaleena and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week

Bad days and weekend seem to be my thing lately. If you come to my blog and there is a radio silence, just know that I am somewhere probably trying not to get eaten alive or fighting off something fierce. Thursday was the only redeeming thing about this week, and for that, I am grateful for Thursdays. Last night we were supposed to go to the Chalk Art Festival at the Gateway... but noooooo, some lady had to take over and made a poor attempt to do improvised blues singing. All of her songs were based on her being from Louisiana. Ten bucks says she is from Park City... or even Ogden. Her awkard stage presence only allowed us to watch for about fifteen minutes. By awkward stage presence, I mean bare foot and clapping in the bass players direction. A guy standing next to us, asked me to take a picture of him with the stage in the background with his iPhone. Thanks to my lack of knowing the iPhone technology I ruined the picture taking by pushing the one and only button the phone had and opened a brand new menu. Oops.

Today is Friday. ENOUGH SAID.

sometimes i suggest music.

Right before my iPod decided to kill itself, I was scrounging for some new music. I had an 80 GB iPod with 65 GB taken and yes, I was still painfully bored of my iPod's music. Judging from the last statement, you can probably have what some like to call 'music ADD'. I did enjoy what I had, very much, but everyone loves new music every now and then.

If you are on the prowl for something new to listen to on your drive, while working or when you are taking it easy, I suggest Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home.

Also, this song isn't new to me, but it's been on my top three as of late.
The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition

hat trick.

Remember this post? Well thanks to my skill in thrift and bargain shopping, I was able to find two hats for seven bucks! TWO HATS FOR SEVEN BUCKS. I tried to pick ones out that I could pretty much wear with anything. Personally, I like the tan one better.

must.. sleep.. to.. function..

(I hope you read the title to this post as if a zombie was saying it). You know that feeling when you are laying in your soft bed in the morning, cozy in your blankets, you open your eyes, take a deep breath in and go 'aaaaahhhhhh' and feel completely relaxed and refreshed from a great nights sleep? Yeah, that hasn't happened to me in about two weeks. I wake up with my back feeling like I was lugging heavy luggage uphill, laid a couple ton of bricks then rolled down a gravel hill. Thus, making my neck just as painful. It feels awfully stiff and kinked. I don't even have dreams anymore so the time I sleep isn't worth it! Honestly, I wake up feeling more exhausted than I did before I slept. It's funny to me how stressful and exhausting sleep can be.

I've started to see how this lack of comfortable and effect sleep is effecting me. People have had to deal with the super stressed version of Kaleena. So I did some research of my favorite search engine, Google.

Tips for a better night sleep:

1.Go to bed and get up at about the same time every day, even on the weekends.
2. Don't eat or drink large amounts before bedtime.
3.Avoid nicotine, caffeine and alcohol in the evening.
4. Exercise regularly.
5.Make your bedroom cool, dark, quiet and comfortable.
6.Start a relaxing bedtime routine
7. Avoid watching TV, eating, and discussing emotional issues in bed.

I'm going to give these a try. I'm not too hopeful... considering I already do everything on this list. Cheers to a better night sleep.

Also, if anyone has tips of their own, or has any experiences they had similar to this, please share! I need some help. Some serious help.

behold! charlie chows.

If you are ever in Salt Lake City, and for some reason you can only choose one place to eat, you need to choose Charlie Chows. Especially if you love Chinese food. Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm. Any other Charlie Chow take out night, I would get Seasame Chicken but today I said no and I went ahead and tried the Lemon Chicken. Awesome choice by me. Delish. Steve gets the Imperial Chicken, it's their most spicy dish. We usually share our food so the love gets shared.

Something awful happened last night. I knew this day would have to come. My three year old iPod finally bit the dust. It was on shuffle on  my way home from the grocery store last night, (I admit, Eminem came on and I didn't change it) and I went to press pause and nothing. So I think, try turning up the volume, nothing. Go through Artists, nothing. Reset it, NOTHING!! It betrayed me for the last time.

While at work, being the productive employee that I am, I was hopefully searching Google to see if there were any alternatives to saving my iPod's life, and lucky for me... there was!! I just need to hook it up to iTunes and restore it. Which means all my music will be deleted. I feel like I'm about to perform open heart surgery on the thing. Wish me luck. *deep breath* Here goes.

take that, lunch stealers!

Has anyone ever had their lunch stolen? Gone to the fridge to get your sandwich and it's not there, even when your name was CLEARLY on it? Well don't stress any longer! What we have here is an anti-theft sandwich baggie. It comes with green markings to make it look like there is mold on it... so when the sandwich is in there, it looks like a gross, repulsive, moldy sandwich! Yum. What a genious and thoughtful idea. I'm jealous I didn't think of it before. It's things like this that makes me think, seriously, how did I not think of this.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

it's officially june...

as well as my birthday month! Twenty-four days left until I am finally twenty-one. I should probably get on some fun birthday plans before it's too late. Guess what? I finally found a headband that doesn't make my head feel it's being pinched together so tightly it might pop or cause some serious damage behind my ears.Did anyone else have an especially lame Tuesday besides me?
