What a happy weekend we had. When I think of it ending, I die a little on the inside. On Saturday morning we went down to Pioneer Park for their annual Memorial Day yard sale. The advertisements made it sound like it was going to be an enormous and life changing yard sale with LIVE MUSIC and bounce houses!!! We get there to find about four booths, a lonely DJ with no crowd and a lot of children games. [insert cricket noises here and a possible tumbleweed blowing by] We should have taken warning when we the advertisement read: **if you are selling, absolutely NO drug paraphernalia, weapons, body parts or plasma.** Yikes.
We also went to Laughing Stock at the Off Broadway Theater. Before the show, the host will greet the audience with 'Are you ready to rock? Are you ready to laugh? Let me hear you say rock, rock laughing stock!' and let me tell you, it's been stuck in my head ever since!! Rock, rock laughing stock! Oh well, that won't stop us from going back.

tee hee.
Happy Memorial Day! I am doing everything I can to stretch this long 4-day holiday weekend even longer. Please don't end, pleeeeeeease!! I guess I still have a 4 day work week to look forward to instead of a dreadful 5. Yes, just ONE day can make all the difference. I will leave you to enjoy the rest of your Monday with these pictures:
I feel terrible for the poor girl on the right for so many reasons. You know that after this picture was taken she was begging for it either to be deleted or not put on the internet. She has cruel friends, but I am thankful for those cruel friends.

my followers are better than your followers!
I want to take the time to say thank you to all my followers and readers. I am seriously tickled when I see I have a new follower or a new comment... it's almost embarrassing how excited I get. Some happy dances and girly squeals may or may not be involved. It really means a lot to me. I appreciate every one of you. I'm going to really try to make just add kaleena a blog that you will be eager to read and follow, so if you see anything you like or dislike, I'm more than happy to hear your thoughts. So again, thank you very much!

neutrogena sugar scrub. yes, please!
Wanna know the one and only thing I don't like about Summer? How dry it makes my poor hands and feet. :( Ya know those acne commercials where it shows the victims of acne who have tried absolutely every product and they still haven't seen results? That is me, but with my dry skin. BUT those days are over!!! Neutrogena Sugar Scrub actually helped my skin and all it's dryness ways. All you do is just rub it on your hands/feet or wherever you want really, and it's incredible how smooth and soft it makes your skin. If you have ever used or tried a dead sea salt scrub, it has the similar texture. I suggest you use it even if you don't have dry or rough skin, it's THAT good. Also, being such a girl that I am, I love and have fun trying new beauty products, so try it out!
Do you have any suggestions or remedies that you like to use for better skin?

speak.
Have you ever read the book, Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson? If not, I high recommend it. For me, it's a book that I can read countless times (in fact, I have read countless times) without it getting old or boring. To me, those are the best books to have. I was first introduced to the book my sophomore in high school in my English class. We read it as a class and it was the first book I HAD to read for school that I actually enjoyed reading and didn't just skim through.
Basically, my own synopsis of the book is: Melinda Sordino, a teenager, goes to a end-of-summer party thrown by her fellow classmates. While she is there she is raped by the most popular jock in school. She naturally calls the police, who arrive shortly after and crash the party. However, her friends there didn't know the circumstances of the police call and thought she did it to be a tattle-tale to ruin the party. When school starts, Melinda is the total outcast. Everyone picks on her, humiliates her, pretty much does anything to make her life a living hell. She lost all her friends and really only has herself to rely on. She also loses her ability to SPEAK. Throughout the book you can see her struggles with dealing with fact that she got raped and she how she starts to grow from it.
This is a terribly easy read, the last time I read it, it only took me a day. It also was made into a movie, check out the trailer:

has anyone seen the backside of mt. rushmore?
Do you want to see something silly? I did too, and that is when I looked at the back side of Mount Rushmore. It makes me happy to know that there are people out there with a sense of humor like this. Hardy-har-har!

tips for a better life.
Lately with everything going on lately, this list really helped me out. These things seem so simple so you don't really realize what a difference they can make.
- Take a 10-30 minutes walk every day.
- Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
- Sleep for 7 hours.
- Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
- Play more games.
- Read more books than you did the previous year.
- Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
- Dream more while you are awake.
- Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Smile and laugh more.
- Don’t waste your precious energy or time on gossip.
- Forget issues of the past. They’ll just ruin your present happiness.
- Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
- Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
- Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
- Life is too short to waste time hating anyone, so don’t even try.
- Don’t take yourself so seriously.
- You don’t have to win every argument. Just agree to disagree.
- Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
- Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about. Don’t compare your partner with others either.
- What other people think of you is none of your business.
- No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
- However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
- Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
- Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
- Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
- No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
- Call your family often.
- Your inner most is always happy. So be happy.
- Each day give something good to others.
- Don’t over do. Keep your limits.

have you ever had a morning where you want to hit 'reset' on your life console?
Have you ever had one of those days, where somehow everything goes completely wrong in the morning? Hair, make-up, outfit, getting out the door without catching on fire or breaking a bone? This rarely happens to me. It used to happen to me too often for comfort, but I made myself get better and planning ahead and it works. And oh my, does it work.
Well, last night I took the time to plan an outfit, including accesories, shoes, blah blah blah. So I must say it honestly blew my mind for how awful everything turned out. First off, my hair. I tried to make it wavy. Key work: tried. It shouldn't be a challenge since it's naturally wavy, right? Wrong. SO, so wrong. It looks like I put in curlers the size of my pinky and someone splashed it with a squirt gun and now it's drying on it's own. Sooooooooo much frizz. Well cheers to sloppy/messy/disasterous/unflattering outfits and hair do's (more like hair don'ts) right?
When me and roommate get bored, we go to Smith's. However, last night we branched out and went to Smith's Marketplace. It was quite the ridiculous trip. Let's just say it started with 4 bags of 78 cent pop cicles and it ended with us buying mustaches out of the quarter machine that later was stuck onto our wall. We were sad Steve had to miss out on the festivites at Smith's. We have his Summer anatomy class to thank for that. Great way to start the holiday weekend.

cats vs. dogs.
I feel like I should take a slight break from zombie week. I apologize if my brain cupcake post grossed anybody out. But hey, it's zombie week and I just had to.
I found this interesting thing about dogs and cats. Check it out. I got it from: http://www.onlineschools.org/blog/cats-vs-dogs/

zombie cupcakes.
For zombie week, what sounds more appetizing than brain cupcakes? A lot of things actually... But it's zombie week!!! You can't have zombie week without brain cupcakes.
The brain is made out of chocolate, and the blood is some sort of semi-melted icing. I wish I had the exact recipe, but unfortunately, the website I got this from felt like they should advertise the most zombie-awesome dessert without a recipe. I still can't decide if these are the most awesome/creative thing I've seen or the most disgusting. Nom. Nom. Nom.

zombie week.
I probably should have decided this on Sunday or Monday... but this week on just add kaleena it will be zombie week!!
Being the total zombie fan that I am, I will basically post some of my favorite zombie comics, zombie movies, delish zombie recipes, and just anything of the zombie variety. It would probably make more sense if I waited to do this around Halloween, but who cares, it's officially zombie week.
This photo is a model of peanuts as if they were zombies. Pretty awesome.

hello from a tuesday afternoon.
First, I want to apologize to my readers, who I absolutely adore, (thanks again for the comments and following!) for abandoning my blog for one, whole, terrible, slow, week. I had one hell of a week last week. I made a rule when I first created just add kaleena that I would never blog when I was in a bad mood or if something terrible was going on. Except if it had one awesome story, then in that case, it would be very blogable. Anyhoo, yeah bad moods and terrible days will only lead to boring and negative posts.
So here I am. One week later. Happy and dandy again. Eating peppered beef jerky and diet dr. pepper. Just what I need on a Tueday afternoon. Speaking of beef jerky, my friend informed me of a zombie jerky. It's BLUE beef jerky. In case you didn't know, I am a pretty big fan of zombies. I sometimes picture what it would be like if there were a zombie apocolypse when I'm falling asleep. Also, I don't go to the gym to be healthy, I go so I am in shape for when I need to battle zombies.
It's good to be back. OH!! and there is exactly one month til my birthday. Holler.

even though it's taco tuesday...
... I still had 'one of those days'. Anxiety didn't help. I'll get over it eventually.
Meanwhile, you should listen to this song by Joshua Radin. It is perfect for days like my day today. Also, if you if you are looking for new music, you should look up any of his albums. He's awesome. Trust me.

monday monday, can't trust that day.
Gooooooooooooood Monday morning! I thought it was very rude of the weekend to leave on such short notice. This morning I would love to be eating pancakes with sausage and bacon in our nice cozy kitchen.
Instead, I will be sitting in my cave at work, at a lonely desk, on a hard (and obnoxiously squeaky) chair eating Special K out of a paper bowl. Nom nom nom? I think not.
Hope you have an enjoyable Monday/week, don't let it kill you, or the man wins.

yes, pretty please.
I want one of these. Very badly. Not sure if I could pull it off. But I'm a creep and will try anyways when and if I ever find one that's not a bajillion dollars.
this old man...
...is better at life than you.
I'm not sure if this is an optical illusion or photoshop proving it's excellence, but either way, this man is a showoff. This guy makes me feel ashamed of myself! He can do something like this while I have to deal with the everyday struggle with opening the jar of pickles. That jar of pickles taunts me whenever I open the fridge.

let it be known
...that on Thursday night, I, Kaleena, watched a musical. Yes, a musical, Hairspray to be exact. This is big news actually. For those who know me, know that I absolutely, with all my heart, hate, despise, and loathe musicals. With the exceptions of Grease and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
On Thursday night, me and Steve were going through our movies and we finally narrowed it down to three: Monsters Inc, Wedding Singer and Dragnet. Then I thought, yeah, how about not. We've seen these three countless times, to the point where we can recite the lines. Then I completely blew Steve's mind when I suggested Hairspray. I am pleased I suggested it, because..... I. LOVED. IT. I even had the musical numbers stuck in my head at work the next day. He even said he was proud of me.
Kaleena says: Even though you are 100% sure you do not like something, always give it a second chance, you could end up surprising yourself. Or hating it even more. Tee. Hee.

diet dr pepper and chicken & cheese tequitos
...Is what I am currently eating as I post this. Mmm. Are you jealous? Good. You should be.
Last night as I was sprawled out on the couch I had a sudden urge to experiment with my Canon camera. Do you want to know where my 'cool experiment' with my camera led? I just went outside and took pictures in the dark with the flash. I know, I couldn't believe I came up with that idea either. However, I did like the results.

my heart is in san francisco.
Remember how much I love San Francisco? Remember how I wish I was going there this weekend? Remember how I spent all Friday at work looking at pictures from San Francisco? Remember when I said remember when too much in one blog post? I've been there twice, once when I was a senior and again last Summer. I don't plan on ever leaving Utah as far as living goes. However, if I could live anywhere else in the world besides here (and Denmark, of course) I would choose San Francisco. Where would you choose?

look, kaleena is blonde again!
Tis true. I am blonde again. My hair is hating me as of right now... it is completely dried out and very, very damaged on the ends thanks to all the hair dye. In fact, I think I hear it start to whimper when it sees me grab my hair dryer and straightener. How much more can it take?? Sorry hair. I'm going to take better care of you now that my hair is blonde and I'm done coloring.
Never again will I go as dark as I was before. NEVER AGAIN. I'll tell you a secret, I said this same thing back in high school when I went from dark to light too and look what happened. It's not worth the brassy and copper colors and completely fried hair after. I will admit, I really do miss my dark hair, but blonde is more Kaleena.
I think I mostly have Purple Shampoo to thank for all this. Purple shampoo is a MIRACLE. I highly recommend it to anyone trying to boost the blonde tones and highlights in their hair. Thank you purple shampoo for making my journey back to blonde more rewarding. The coolest and most awesome thing about the purple shampoo is that it's actually purple! Suds and all. It's awesome.
