from j street to r street.

Is there anything worse than an appalling roommate? Besides stepping on a lego piece while barefoot? Or somebody with sweaty hands playing with your hair? Or thinking your roomate is out in the stairwell so you rip the door open to suprise/scare him but it's only the tenants across the hall judging you? The answer to all of the above is, no. nuh-uh. nope.

I would hate to bombinate you with poor-poor me stories of "roommates that made me want to nail myself to the road on the freeway" so I will keep it lucid.

Steve and I went through 8 months of complete anguish. Hell. Pandemonium!! That's how we ended up in our apartment here on R street in fact. Long, tragic, story short: we were graced with two roommates. great guys as individuals, terrible as roommates. we cut our lease short. did celebratory dances (think:celtic river dancing) when we got approved for apartment (just me and Steve). pack our boxes while cursing the house under our breath. settle into our new home. and we are living happily ever after on R street.

Why am I telling you this? Great question. I'm glad you asked! I'm telling you this because even though we were apart from done with that Cambodian snake pit back in February, I still had some of my belongings stored there. Today was the last day for me to get them out. Are you ready to have your mind blown?
I was an emotion wreck getting my things out of that house! Not emotional as in rage black outs but of pure sorrow of being officially done with the place. I mean, it was the first house me and Steve shared together. Silent memories were rolling in my head at the certain places I looked and remembered. Treasured. Retreasured?

When the room was empty, I took a final look, a breath, ignored the tears in my eyes and left our first home drowning in the feeling of melancholy.

don't let me go to lolcats!!!

I'm terribly, terribly embarrassed to say what I'm about to admit. I won't blame you if you judge me. I have found myself at www.lolcats.com way too much these last couple days. And what a ludicrous couple days these have been because of that. I'm shaking my fist to you lol cats, shame on you!

Not long ago, I used to be on the other side of the lol cats fan base. Ah, those were simpler times. I feel there are two kinds of people in this world. Guys & girls. Jk. The two kinds of people in this world are: those who gain satisfaction from lol cats and those who wouldn't go to lolcats.com if it cured cancer.

I despised lol cats. I was the one to mock them. I thought, who actually enjoys this nonsense??

This new found fetish for lolcats.com has also given me a new admiration for the felines. A month ago, I wouldn't have gotten nearly as much joy out of this as I do today:
*SIGH* well it is getting late, I better log off and go to lolca..... I mean.... uh..... bed. Yeah, I need to go to.... bed.

I have a problem.

a photo for my mood.

If my mood was in photo form today, (moodtography?) you would be looking at it. I was up awfully late last night, *cough* 3:30 *cough* until my eyes finally betrayed me and I slept. Aside from my lack of beauty sleep, losing my alarm clock battle, and having a ghastly hair day... today has been angelic. Half of me doesn't want this day to end, the other half of me wants it to be Thursday already.

Cheers.

so clear but so unheard.

You know how you can tell you are about to have a beastly, harrowing day? When you wake up feeling like while I you were sleeping someone beat you with a pillowcase full of doorknobs. That was me this morning. Feeling the way I did, the last thing that came to my mind was, 'Hey! I want to go to a loud, hot, sweaty, place tonight that will be crowded and blasting live music!' Little did I know, I would be a person at that loud, hot, sweaty, crowded place. My phone buzzed about half way through my stagnant day at work. It was Steve. Steve telling me he got us tickets... to Silversun Pickups with Against Me! !!! (Henry Clay People as the opener).

We got there, waited in line for about twenty minutes, did some people watching, guessed some people's names, I spun a wheel and won a prize, we EVEN saw a Janis Joplin look-a-like. I'm still convinced it was her. (yes, I know she is dead). IT WAS HER!!

Lights dim. Chattering stops. Lights flash on. The Henry Clay People are there on stage. This was the first time we seen or even heard these guys. We give them a 7 out of 10.

Out of all three bands, Against Me! easily wins my vote in the best performance. I had the most fun during their set, they had an awesome set list, and they were entertaining to watch. Weird though, I've never been a huge fan of them.

My ears are still ringing. My heels are still numb. I'm still uber sore. And I couldn't be more content.

my daily battle.

For some people, a daily battle can be maintaining a diet, kicking an ongoing habit, sticking to a goal, etc. Mine? My daily battle is the boorish lady across the street from my work that runs the gas station.

I play frogger to get across the street every morning at my work. I have no choice but to play frogger due to the lack of cross walk. Let me tell you, it gets intense and I've dodged my share of semi trucks and student drivers.

Once I've accomplished another morning of playing my daily 'game' of frogger to get to the gas station to get my Diet Dr Pepper, peppered beef jerky and the occasional maple donut, I have to deal with her. This is what the gas station attendant looks like:

I'm patiently waiting in line, (very patiently, because the longer I'm in line there, the longer I'm away from work) and then the line dissolves away and it's my turn. Today, she said, "come on now, little one." No. Don't call me that. I'm a big girl, I crossed the street all by myself!! I don't know why she insists on treating me this way. I swipe my card, put in my pin all while I can feel her glaring at me. Then, the little screen pops up where it asks if I approve the total. She reaches over the monitor and goes to press the OKAY button. Nope. Not today! Back up off! I stop her hand and look her straight in the face and say, thanks, but I'm pretty sure I can handle this task on my own.

I have a feeling that was the end of my daily battles.

bits of my weekend.

This weekend was spectacular.
Friday:
Work freed me extra early, so we enjoyed lunch at Red Robin.
We went up to M Street, tossed the football and played a bit.
Went and had our minds blow again while watching, Inception.
Zzzzzz.

Saturday:
Car washing party.
Del Taco. Nom, nom, nom.
Zzzz.
Witnessed Salt Lake Bee's play decent and some intense people watching.
Consumed my 65416th plate of cheese fries.
Couch. Comedy Central.
Zzzzzz.
Sunday:
Breakfast @ the Other Place. French Toast sandwich for me, House breakfast
for Steve.
Zzzz.
Dinner.
Zzzz.
All in all, we laughed, we slept, we ate, we slept some more. Take my word for it, our weekend was a lot better than it sounds.

ode to jim morrison. again.

One of the many wishes I have in life is I wish I was as talented as Jim Morrison was when he was alive. But I'm not. And that is something I have to live with everyday. *JK* I would be content if I was HALF as talented as him.

Well, it's time now for another supply (two) of my favorite Jim Morrison quotes.

"People fear death even more than pain. It's strange that they fear death. Life hurts a lot more than death. At the point of death, the pain is over. Yeah, I guess it is a friend."

“I wouldn't mind dying in a plane crash. It'd be a good way to go. I don't want to die in my sleep, or of old age, or OD...I want to feel what it's like. I want to taste it, hear it, smell it. Death is only going to happen to you once; I don't want to miss it.”

If I ever had the chance to speak to or even be near Jim Morrison, I imagine a mixture of different things happening. Correction: a mixture of BAD things happening. Like:

1. I would just get so excited, spaz Kaleena would fiercley sprout out and humiliate herself. Red face and all. Along with this, I imagine some loud shouting...?

2.I would forget everything. His name. My name. His songs, band, poetry.

3. I would probably ask him to marry me.

i saw the movie inception....

..and I'm suddenly ten again. Besides getting my mind totally blown by the awesomeness of the movie, I was swooning over Leonardo DiCaprio, much like I did when I was ten when I saw Titanic.I still can't get over how perfect this whole movie is. Every time I think about it I have a fit of satisfaction/frustration/happiness/excitement. The ending made me go AHGRGRGGHRHG!! But still.

Anyway, back to adorable Leonardo DiCaprio. I made a Leo book when I was ten and I'm fully regretting throwing it away when I became 'too cool' for it. Let's be honest, how did I ever think I was too cool for my Leo book? However. It's not too late to make another. Now, where do I get some Teen Beat magazines?

Take a break and gaze at my favorite pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio. Checking your e-mail, Facebooking, news reading, Stumbling... that can all wait! Check him out.

reason #44 why i love dogs.

I love dogs. There is no other way to say it. I just love dogs. I am a freak about dogs... I feel like I shouldn't be as proud while admitting this. I would be lying if I said I never have almost crashed my car cause I was distracted by a dog playing on the side of the road. I also have cried once or twice when I see a poor pup wandering down the road without a collar.

If I could, I would buy/rent some sort of huge barn or warehouse. What would I do with that barn or warehouse? I would put all the homeless, neglected, abused, lonely dogs I could in there and I would take care of them. Yes, even the ugly dogs I don't like can stay in there too. And plus, what isn't cool about a barn full of dogs? My first concern would be finding a way to hide and get rid of any smell. Gag.

my LOL for the day.

Behold. What you are about to read are the 56 worst and best analogies of high school students. For all the bitter feelings I have for my high school days and memories, these are pretty hysterical. It kind of stirred something up inside me that made me miss it. But only a tiny bit. I bolded my favorites.

  1. Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center.
  2. He was as tall as a 6′3″ tree.
  3. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
  4. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.
  5. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  6. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
  7. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
  8. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
  9. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
  10. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.
  11. The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife’s infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM.
  12. The lamp just sat there, like an inanimate object.
  13. McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.
  14. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
  15. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at asolar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
  16. Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
  17. Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.
  18. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.
  19. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.
  20. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
  21. They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan’s teeth.
  22. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.
  23. Even in his last years, Grand pappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it hadrusted shut.
  24. He felt like he was being hunted down like a dog, in a place that hunts dogs, I suppose.
  25. She was as easy as the TV Guide crossword.
  26. She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs.
  27. The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.
  28. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.
  29. “Oh, Jason, take me!” she panted, her breasts heaving like a college freshman on $1-a-beer night.
  30. It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally staple it to the wall.
  31. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.
  32. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.
  33. The politician was gone but unnoticed, like the period after the Dr. on a Dr Pepper can.
  34. Her eyes were like limpid pools, only they had forgotten to put in any pH cleanser.
  35. Her date was pleasant enough, but she knew that if her life was a movie this guy would be buried in the credits as something like “Second Tall Man.”
  36. The thunder was ominous-sounding, much like the sound of a thin sheet of metal being shaken backstage during the storm scene in a play.
  37. The red brick wall was the color of a brick-red Crayola crayon.
  38. She caught your eye like one of those pointy hook latches that used to dangle from screen doors and would fly up whenever you banged the door open again.
  39. Her pants fit her like a glove, well, maybe more like a mitten, actually.
  40. Fishing is like waiting for something that does not happen very often.
  41. They were as good friends as the people on “Friends.”
  42. Oooo, he smells bad, she thought, as bad as Calvin Klein’s Obsession would smell if it were called Enema and was made from spoiled Spamburgers instead of natural floral fragrances.
  43. The knife was as sharp as the tone used by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) in her first several points of parliamentary procedure made to Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) in the House Judiciary Committee hearings on the impeachment of President William Jefferson Clinton.
  44. He was as bald as one of the Three Stooges, either Curly or Larry, you know, the one who goes woo woo woo.
  45. The sardines were packed as tight as the coach section of a 747.
  46. Her eyes were shining like two marbles that someone dropped in mucus and then held up to catch the light.
  47. The baseball player stepped out of the box and spit like a fountain statue of a Greek god that scratches itself a lot and spits brown, rusty tobacco water and refuses to sign autographs for all the little Greek kids unless they pay him lots of drachmas.
  48. I felt a nameless dread. Well, there probably is a long German name for it, like Geschpooklichkeit or something, but I don’t speak German. Anyway, it’s a dread that nobody knows the name for, like those little square plastic gizmos that close your bread bags. I don’t know the name for those either.
  49. She was as unhappy as when someone puts your cake out in the rain, and all the sweet green icing flows down and then you lose the recipe, and on top of that you can’t sing worth a damn.
  50. Her artistic sense was exquisitely refined, like someone who can tell butter from I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.
  51. It came down the stairs looking very much like something no one had ever seen before.
  52. Bob was as perplexed as a hacker who means to access T:flw.quid55328.com\aaakk/ch@ung but gets T:\flw.quidaaakk/ch@ung by mistake.
  53. You know how in “Rocky” he prepares for the fight by punching sides of raw beef? Well, yesterday it was as cold as that meat locker he was in.
  54. The dandelion swayed in the gentle breeze like an oscillating electric fan set on medium.
  55. Her lips were red and full, like tubes of blood drawn by an inattentive phlebotomist.
  56. The sunset displayed rich, spectacular hues like a .jpeg file at 10 percent cyan, 10 percent magenta, 60 percent yellow and 10 percent black.

the things we do to avoid work.

Here in Utah, it is a holiday weekend. Us Utah natives call it Pioneer Day. It marks the day of  the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.

With all that being said, It's a pretty mellow holiday... and everyone in the state of Utah has work off tomorrow EXCEPT ME!! Let me take this time to take pity on myself:

Everyone else has the day to do whatever they please, except me.
Everyone else has the morning to sleep in and avoid the morning battle with the alarm clock, except me.
Everyone else can be happy and cheerful whilst away from their place of work, except me.
Everyone else will be running, jumping, skipping, participating in synchronized dances (much like the scene from (500) Days of Summer), except me.
Everyone else will be enjoying an ice cream cone in the park that will escalate into a water fight, except me.
I dunno, what else do people do on their day off for a holiday weekend?

I'm done crying and moaning and letting my 8 year old Kaleena shine through. For the duration of this post at least.

Now, I will proceed to make a list of terrible things I would rather do than work tomorrow:
-Mow the lawn.
-Pull weeds.
-Put a pair of sopping wet jeans on.
-Watch TV with the volume on 17.
-Walk barefoot on yellow, dead, crisp, dead grass.
-Wash my hair without using conditioner.
-Put a toothpick under by big toe nail and kick a soccerball.
-Listen to Nickelback. Errrr. I take that one back.
-Play with a poodle.
-Watch the George Lopez Show.
-Put my hand in a jar of marshmellow fluff and not wash it for the rest of the day.
-Run stair laps.
-Be locked in a room with a wild animal.
-Run out of gas.

You get the picture. I mean, I don't celebrate this holiday, but when everyone else I know will be enjoying them a free Friday, I will make my complaint heard. Not to mention, if I actually did some of the stuff on that list of mine, I would have some nifty stories come Monday.

This whiny post is officially over.

i'm headed for a change.

HA! Get it? Because my header changed. I really do hate how much I make myself laugh... especially over ridiculous, unfunny puns. Or should I say unpunny? Shame on me.

So I don't want to brag or anything, but I totally made my header. In about twenty minutes. I will admit, it does indeed look like a twenty minute header. But hey, that's what you get for having an attention span like mine and being so eager to see how it looks.

I like it.

Let me know what you think. You don't HAVE to be nice.

look! i'm harry potter!

Don't waste your time asking me, "Team Edward or team Jacob?" Um. No. How about I'm team Harry Potter.

Let's be honest, is there anyone in the world who doesn't like Harry Potter? If you don't like Harry Potter, I don't know if I can live knowing someone in the world exists who doesn't like Harry Potter. This is a material world and I am a HARRY POTTER GIRL!!! Wow.

If you couldn't guess, this post was born due to my eagerness of the 7th Harry Potter that feels like it will never come out. I am living for this upcoming Harry Potter movie. I mean my paper chain countdown can only do so much. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be this excited... the sooner it comes out, the sooner I will have no Harry Potter midnight premiers to look forward to. Aaaah! Is it possible for a girl to have this many emotions for Harry Potter?

same stuff, different day.

Bleh.

It's funny, I always come to my snoop bloggy blog ready to say something and then I catch myself 7 minutes later, dazing off at something across the room on our bookshelf.

I have an excellent memory. You should be jealous of my excellent memory. I remember a lot of things people don't even notice. Then I realized something today... this is turning into an ugly, bad thing. I mean, sure, memories are a great thing to contain! They are tied to you when they happen; when you feel like you are about to explode with whatever emotion you were feeling when the memory was created so it would always be there with you. To remind you. To teach you.

I feel like my memories have put me in a prison. I get so caught up in swimming in them, that I am missing what is going on around me NOW. That's all there is to it. I'm tired of starting every sentence with 'remember when' or 'i'll never forget' It's impossible to live in the present when you are trapped in the past. Now that I think about it, this is probably exactly why I have been feeling the way I have been.

If anyone finds the OFF or PAUSE button for your head, I would just love to know. :-)

and i quote

"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is
brave five minutes longer."-Ralph Waldo Emerson

"A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are
the others crazy?"-Albert Einstein

"When there is nothing left to burn, set yourself on fire."

bits of my weekend.

I'm sitting on the couch. In our terribly hot and moist apartment. All windows open, hearing the dull hum of the Summer night. It's so hot that just vegging on the couch is making me tired. Or maybe I'm just that lazy. In my defense, I was camping all weekend and it is 12:10AM.

In my opinion, the best month in the Summer for a camping weekend is July. For the simple reasons of: you get to escape from the heat, the sweating, the dehydration, the desire to curl up in your freezer and build a nest to live in. Friday was the hottest day of the year here in Utah. Let me tell you, on that Friday, I've never wanted a freezer home more in my life. I even had the urge to stop by a gas station to get a bag of ice to carry around with me like a baby to keep me cool. I would've called it Baby Ice... kind of like Baby Spice from the Spice Girls.

This weekend was spent camping. Words cannot express the amount of relief I felt when we escaped the heat and passed through the veil of the cool, fresh mountain air. Sadly, the relief did not last long. The despised heat was replaced with irritating and consistent flies. You can't see it, but I'm shaking my fist at you flies. They were the kind of flies that not matter how hard you flung your hand or arm to get them off, they would stay on. Making you look ridiculous.

listening to the fighting couple across the hall can be exhausting.

WARNING: Only read this post if  you are were one of those kids in high school who would run down the hall when you would hear two kids were fighting.

You have been warned.

There is a couple who lives across the hall from us. When they first moved in, I passed the girl in the hall, made eye contact (awkwardly of course)
Me: Hi!
Girl who is just too angry and bitter at the world: .......

A couple days later we hear some door slamming, stomping feet, voices being raised. We think, hmm, we scored some noisy, inconsiderate neighbors and shrugged it off. We were so naive then. So naive.

Turns out, this couple hates each other. Despises the others existence. Is living to see the other die.

We hear an explosion of yelling, shouting, crying, etc. A few slams. One of them will storm out. Fifteen minutes later we see them back out in front of the building listing off the complaints of  what the other one doesn't do enough or does too much. Some name calling.

For whatever reason, me and Steve are addicted to listening and watching. We are glued to the windows and doors when we hear them. It's almost like a soap opera. Hmm... maybe we should start taking notes for a screen play... No. Kaleena, no.

only boring people get bored.

I need a break of some sort. My head is very full. Full of thoughts. Scenarios. Ideas. The past. Goals. Songs. What I need to do. What I didn't do. What I should've done. Mistakes. Memories. Wishes. Concerns. Like I said, it's full.

Sylvia Plath once said, "Isn't there any way out of your own mind?" I've always admired that quote, but I think now I am understanding the relevance of it.
I've always have had a thing for quotes. All throughout jr. high, I would write down my favorite quotes and tape them on my bedroom walls till the quotes were suffocating the walls.
So please, let me share with you a couple of my favorites:
"A bore is a man who, when you ask him how he is, tells you."
"Time you enjoyed wasting, isn't wasted time."
"A guy and a girl can be just friends but at one point or another, they will fall for each other. Maybe temporarily, maybe at the wrong time, maybe too late or maybe forever."
"I kept standing and waiting for someone to do something. Then I realized, I could be that someone."
"My belt holds up my pants, but my belt loops hold my belt. Which one is the real hero?"
"I'm sorry and I apologize mean the same thing... except for at a funeral."
"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."
"The world is a comedy for those who think but a tragedy for those who feel."
"Forgive your enemies but never forget their names."

my LOL for the day.

I hope someone in the world enjoys this video half as much as I do. hahahahahahahaha

I don't know if I'm more entertained at the fact of how long his fascination of the double rainbow goes on for how happy a double rainbow makes him. All I know is that his man is just loving every bit of life. Not just his life, but LIFE in general.

Every time I watch it (yes, I've watched it so much I am at liberty to say 'every time') I end up laughing hysterically but saying WTF at the same time.

a photo for my mood.

I've been trying to give myself projects lately. One of the projects I thought of is to try and take a picture of something that is reflecting my mood. Here is my first photo that is reflecting my current mood:

bits of my weekend.

Best part of my weekend: HARRY POTTER WAS ON ABC FAMILY FOR THREE. DAYS. STRAIGHT.

sometimes i suggest music.

The music I am suggesting today is Thieves, by She & Him.

She & Him is Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward's band.

FUN FACT: Did you know that Zooey Deschanel is married to Ben Gibbard? The guy from Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service? Awesome.

and the tears come streaming down your face.

S-O- gee double oh dee -good. (so good). I'm annoyed. I have that jingle (or whatever you wanna call it) stuck in my head from whatever commercial it is from. Grrr. I'm going on about hour number 18 of it being on *repeat* in my head.

I don't know what my deal is. I've been in a weird funk. This week has drained me. Not the drain where I feel tired and exhausted, but drained as in I don't feel like myself and slightly numb. I'm finding myself listening to the most sad and depressing music I have on my iPod. I can't sleep. I tend to go through phases like this every once and while, but for no good reason, this one kind of snuck up on me. I guess the best way to describe this, is if I were to go inside myself, I would find a note left by the real Kaleena that says, went out, be back later, you'll get through this.

Fingers crossed that the cause of this is something simple; something a happy thought or positive attitude can cure. Like my lack of adventure so far this summer. Or that work is slowly killing my insides lately. The fact that I am still like a 6 year old, where if I have a bad day, I will pout and sulk. There is actually a lot of things that can be causing this, and I keep thinking to myself, "Change your thoughts, and you change your world."

After I graduated high school, I was a prisoner of depression for about two years. I got myself out of that without any professional help or from medication. If I did it then, I can do it now. Cheers.

two of my favorite pictures i took last night.

This one is me playing with the different settings on my Canon. While waiting in the snaking line to get into the free concert.
Look, it's Isaac Brock. From Modest Mouse.
