a scary video for a scary holiday.

I wanted to post a scary video for Halloween and this is all I could come up with:

It's a little long, but I promise, if you watch the whole thing, you'll thank me.

Timone and Pumba -- THEY REALLY EXIST!!

I can be such a freak. yeah, kaleena, you can be.

Reader! I thoroughly enjoy that you are still wearing you costume at this hour. You look spooky. If you say trick-or-treat, I'll give you some candy from that bowl over there.

So, I just finished reading some of my earlier blogs when Just Add Kaleena was first born, and let me tell you.................... those blogs are concrete proof of how much I change. Woweeee. It's also concrete proof of how much I have a fetish of making lists. But, I love lists.

I can't believe I've been blogging for about a year now. Let me tell you, that is about a whole year longer than I thought this blog would last. Weird. I oddly remember everything about the day when I made this: It was raining... a Saturday... I was home alone... I was in the bathroom doing my makeup listening to 'Sweet Disposition' by The Temper Trap and later we went out and had cheese fries for dinner. Bet you didn't see that one coming.

I have a high hope that I will continue blogging for a long time into the future. I wish there was a 'speaking robot font' because I would have used it for when I just typed "long time into the future." I made a goal tonight that I will force myself to take more pictures. --Hey Kaleena, TAKE MORE #$%^!& PICTURES!!

IN OTHER NEWS
Steve and I have a fold out bed in one of our couches. And on nights when we are painfully bored and tired simultaneously we pull that bed out. It looks like we have guest from Canada staying with us. So if anyone asks, we have guests that travel without luggage and are just as messy as us. Oh and we got a craving for waffle fries and it resulted in the smoke alarm going off again which THEN resulted to another shameful head hanging.

happy halloween!

There has got to be a better way to ride that thing with a dog.

Dog: "Please, please tell me we are almost there."

you don't know what you have until you lose it.

It's gone. *sniffle, sniffle* It's really goooooooooone!!

What's that, Reader? What's gone? Well, besides my pride, integrity, and ability to stop myself from asking people what caterpillars are afraid of (by the way, the answer is dogarpillars), my wallet that I was hoping was just  stupidly misplaced is g-g-gooooone!

At about 10:31AM yesterday morning, my heart was officially broken and depleted and replaced with defeat and shame. I phoned the restaurant from the night before at 10:30AM asking about my lost wallet.

"Hang on"

They set the phone down and after listening to muffled voices, heavy breathing and rubbish... a voice came back on and asked me to please  be calm and stop breathing so hard.

"Sorry. No wallet here."

And that's when I realized from this day on, I would be a changed person. No, really. Not just cause of the tragedy that keeps making my eyes teary (no.. i'm not crying, i... i.. just yawned?) but that I was now at risk of identity theft.

"Thank you for calling the identity theft hotline, your call will be answered shortly" I can't believe that this is me. A potential victim of ID theft.

"Identity theft hotline, this is Charly/Charlie."

Me: "......."

I truthfully couldn't tell you how the rest of the conversation went, I was too distracted trying to figure out if I was speaking to a man or a woman. The voice and mystery of this person caught my attention as if I was a kitten in a basket and somebody dangled yarn in front me.

The pros of this situation:
-No money was/has been stolen
-No cash was in the wallet
-I needed a new wallet anyways, this will finally make me get one. Am I moving on too fast?

The cons:
-my wallet was stolen.
-I could lose my Id
-I'm now haunted by the mystery of charlie/charly
-I lost all my movie ticket stubs I've accumulated since 11th grade.
-I was ONE meal away from a free meal, and that proof was in my wallet.

when buying dinner for your boyfriend goes tragic.

Food vendor: "$14.88"

Me to Steve: "Do you want me to get it?"

Steve to Me: "I can if you want, I don't care."

Me to Steve: "Nah, I'll pay." I like to buy Steve's food because if you didn't know him, he comes off as a guy who rescues puppies on the weekends.

Those were such innocent, blissful times. Now here I sit on the couch. With a purse hanging off the corner of the kitchen table chair without a wallet inside. You know that quote, "A room without books is like a body without a soul"? Well I agree with that, if you switch it to "A purse without a wallet is like a body without a soul"

I had to experience that alarming feeling when you reach for your wallet and it's gone. You know all the stuff that comes along with it:
-the sinking stomach.
-the retracing your steps-- that includes with thinking "Is that really what I did tonight?"
-calling to get all cards canceled.
-starring wide eyed into the distance plotting several revenges... but for other related things not involving lost wallets.
-standing in your living room with wet boots that quack when you walk on the hardwood floor and arms that feel dizzy.

Reader, what will I do if I call the restaurant (I hate spelling that word) and they don't have my wallet? Obviously, I will cry and and I have a silent montage of my favorite memories I had with my wallet, like that one time I used it for everything!

ski utah! and skiing requires snow.

I was pleased when I got home today to a Bernese Mountain Dog on the front lawn.

Was this real?

Was this dog mine?

Did someone finally find it in their hearts to get me my dream dog?

Is that Steve dressed in a costume for Halloween? He does a really stupendous dog impression.

I was not pleased when the bastard owner walked up and asked why I was calling it Spot, brushing it's hair and singing lullabys to it.

Years ago, I lived in a very warm,  somewhat dark and comfortable place. Food was always provided and fed to me, I got to relax, and frankly, I could kick it whenever I wanted. This lasted for about nine months where I was then forced to relocate... I was basically pulled out. My mom has a strict 9 month lease.

So here I am today, living in Salt Lake City. Where we have weather patterns. Snow being included in those patterns. Where it generally snows from October-April and yes, sometimes early May. Want to know how I know this? Because I've lived here for twenty-one years. I'm sharing with this with you Reader, for one reason... that reason being: it's astonishing how many Utahns (my age and older) are still shocked when they see snow and will go out of their way to let you know what they were doing when they discovered it was snowing.

Living in Utah, you should not be startled to see snow.  However, you should be startled though if you meet a girl in Provo who isn't a Twilight maniac.

moats & boats & waterfalls, ally ways and payphone calls.

The man on TV is telling me that he will take care of the government cause I've already got too much to take care of. The man also looks like he is en route to a costume part representing Indiana Jones.

Reader, once upon a time before Kaleena had Just Add Kaleena, I did some pretty stupendous things. Yeah, THINGS.

Things like a seven day long road trip to San Francisco! They aren't lying when they say you'll leave your heart there. My heart is somewhere between the Golden Gate Bridge and the Fisherman's Wharf.... or maybe even Alcatraz. Nope, definitely China Town. AaaaAAhh!

Things like riding a bus for a few days to San Diego and Oregon! There is a lot of time to plot successful kidnappings on 17+ hour bus ride. Or coming up with future band names like, "Kaleena's Tribe & More"

Things like painting! Well, meh. It wasn't exactly, painting. But paints and paint brushes and me crouching like a boulder for countless hours were involved.

Things like sleeping in my car! You know, it really was as a slipshod idea as it sounds. Sleeping in a car? If the shortage of padding didn't stop my firstly, then the ice sheets I defied in a battle on my windows before I slept in there should have.

I found some old photos of San Fran and San Diego... I'll just post my faveys though.

Now San Diego...

bits of my weekend.

Four things I learned this weekend:
1. When standing in rainy and cold weather for three hours... you will find yourself walking and "functioning" like a 60+ year old the next day.
2. Two people use more dishes and silverware that you think.
3. I really relish making lists. So much that I make lists of why I like to make lists.
4. It's confirmed: I would rather be sweaty, panting like a dog and hot as opposed to pierced with the cold and quivering.

I also came across thing # 33 on my list of things I don't like to see in public:

photo of the day #43

iPod, I am your fatherrrrrrr.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

things that bother me more than they should... PART I

1. The "sound" of ripping cotton balls apart.
2. Websites/advertisements that blast you away with music when you arrive at their corner of the internet.
3. Married people joking about how harrowing and bleak marriage can be.
4. When I introduce myself as Kaleena (spelling and pronunciation included) and within 30 seconds that individual will call me Kathleena.
5. That there are more fake pink plastic flamingos in America than real ones.
6. Un-painted toenails.
7. When I carelessly forget to charge my iPod.
8. Pop Disney stars claiming their music genre is 'country-rock' HA! yeah, right.
9. How women can't defend a sexist joke without hearing a PMS joke shortly after.
10. How women aren't able to innocently criticize another girl without somebody calling them jealous. GRRR.
11. Your, you're, their, there, they're, it's, its, are, our--- used incorrectly..... repeatedly.
12. Jar Jar Binks. George Lucas needs to be punished for this.

....I dunno, it's like.... you just had to be there, Man.

even thinking about this list makes me excited.

Kaleena's teeny tiny list of things I'm looking forward to and makes me clap and have a fit of joy when I think about them:
  • Carving pumpkins next week. I actually don't even know if this is even happening. I suppose someone somewhere next week will be carving pumpkins, so if you are reading this... I'M EXCITED FOR YOU.
  • Grocery shopping in the morning. I truly adore spending my Sunday mornings at the grocery store. I seriously feel a little butterfly twirl in my stomach when I think about going to the grocery store. It doesn't get better than wandering up and down aisles filling your basket with a whole lot of things you and your American thighs don't really need.
  • Eating the jar of Nally Baby Dill Pickles I will get while grocery shopping.
  • Flying on an airplane and spending November 11th-14th in Indiana.
  • Riding on a bus from Salt Lake City, Utah to San Diego, California from November 18-21. The wheels on the bus go round and round....
  • Decorating our house for Christmas. I have an idea list that's longer than Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
  • November 19th.... EXPECTO PATRONUM!
  • ZzzzzZzzzZzzz
Note to self: find real things worthy of having a fit of joy for.

    can you picture this?

I declare that one out of the fourteen most uncomfortable things to experience is to sprawl yourself on a couch, futon, bean bag, mattress, etc in a restricting pair of jeans. It's agonizing to say the least. Actually, I'm uncertain why I put futon on that list as if it's comfortable in the first place, when clearly futons make you feel as if you are sitting in an enormous open book minus the pages. Now.. I would be pretty barbaric if I truly was sitting in a giant open book, but futons cannot compare.

SO. Back to uncomfortable things. I don't like when I find myself trying to relax on my couch after work with my shoes still on, jeans still on, and my fitted leather fighter pilot jacket still on simultaneously trying to stretch a tiny blanket over myself.  I was THAT exhausted that I didn't realize I didn't put myself in my natural habitat uniform... pajamas. Can you picture how uncomfortable I was?

Uncomfortable thing #2: Uncomfortable thing #2 didn't make me uncomfortable, but the fellow Avenue resident who happened to walk by bathroom window while I was putting my makeup on.

A little mascara here, just a little foundation there.... is that a new freckle? .....

Stranger outside on the sidewalk: ACHOO!!!!!

Me, in the apartment from the window remaining anonymous to Stranger :  BLESS YOU!!!

this fantasy won't LEAVE me alone.

You know how on movies when it's Halloween or Fall, they will always have a happy family scene (golden retriever dog included) where they are all dressed in fuzzy hats and knitted scarfs? While they all joyfully participate in raking the leaves in the yard? Then a great orange, yellow and red pile of leaves accumulates that leads to jumping and wresting in?

Well, while driving today, where all my great thinking gets done, I thought how I've never participated in this leaf raking and jumping scene. I also then decided that as soon as I park my car outside our apartment that I would change this.

I pulled up, basically leaped out of my Exploder (prepping myself for the leaves) and I walk up to this:

Silly Reader, you really thought I would let this stop me? Well.... you're right. I played it out in my head how it would end if I still followed through after seeing this pathetic leaf "pile".

I would start with a fifteen foot running start, a quick leap, a few long seconds of delightful soaring and then THUD. That thud would be followed by fourteen minutes of wincing while laying on top of these four leaves. I mean, if I'm crying and suffering hard enough from the sore landing, and someone drives by, they may mistake it for laughing.

    Mission accomplished?

Proof that you can't be upset that your house is flooded and destroyed when you there are twelve ducks swimming in your house!! It should be a rule that after every house flood, a flock of ducks are to be sent in to cheer you up.

    it's aliiiiive.

Entry #1 of a dramatic and little bit paranoid survivor's diary: I survived!!!!

I went 30 (ish) hours without doing what I do often and best, eating. Yeah, 30 hours. You can only imagine the dreams I had of bath tubs filled with cheese fries... or couches made of sandwiches.... and pickles, just pickles. I broke the dry spell with QUE THE DRUM ROLL!! Tootise Rolls. I was reluctant because I feared any food my stomach came in contact with would trigger the... the b-b-beast again. Well, my intestines agreed with Tootise Rolls and I had 30 hours of eating to make up for and we all lived happily ever after singing, Kumbaya.

Luckily, after the eating today, my intestines don't feel like they are being stretched apart like a tug of rope at a summer camp.

Thank you to everyone in the world who are disgusted by pickles and find them a nuisance, that means more for me!! Seriously though, pickles are delightful.

Now, you are about to cross "watch a video of a manatee squishing into a window" off your list of... things.... to watch.

i wish my body knew the difference between death and illness.

I am sick today... with some sort of stomICK flu.

Me: "Uuuuugggghhh. This is it, I know it, this is my last day. Steve, you can have puffy." -Puffy is my stuffed animal I've had and snuggled with ever since my first Christmas back in 1989.

    Steve: "Stop it."

I can't help it, Reader. I am an ultra baby when I get the slightest bit sick. And to make it worse? I am a raging hypochondriac. RAGING!! Once I thought I had a brain tumor because I got goosebumps on the right side of my head.

Another time, at about 2:00AM, I thought I was about to suffer a mass heart-attack because my heart was beating slightly faster than regular... it freaked me out.... causing my heart rate to go even faster. Ba-Boom....ba-boom....ba-boom..BOOM.BOOM.BOOM.BOOM!! There I was, 17 year old Kaleena, panicking in her room, frantically looking for her journal to document her last minutes. I finally realized I hit rock bottom when I found myself on my floor doing the international sign for "i'm choking."

So, today has been filled with moaning and groaning and me doing the army crawl with one arm extended while I scoot myself to the bathroom. I also look very similar to a lion today. Rawr. My near death experience... err.. illness hit me right after I got out of the shower so my hair dried on its own, leaving me with golden, frizzy and curly hair. My rock bottom moment today was when Steve read our Lysol Wipes container, ".......Kills the Flu virus" I was this close to swallowing a wipe.

If you don't read another post from me, assume the worst.

    StomICK flu: 1 Kaleena: 0, a very pathetic 0

    spook-a-boo.

Early morning. Walking down the extensive, narrow hallway at work, thinking, I don't even remember the drive here,  I was that tired? Is my car even still in one piece? Did I apparate again? Am I awake or dreaming? Is this hallway always this long? I finally arrived at my desk only to find that over the weekend somebody thought I would enjoy being spooked.

Definition of being spooked: Decorate a co-worker's desk with Halloween festivities, such as: cob webs, candy, pumpkins, hanging ghosts, spiders etc. Then you have to keep the spooking going by destroying somebody else's desk.

The spooker shouldn't have spooked me, I am a killer of all chains... especially in the workplace.

Apart from the mess I had to clean up, I did enjoy eating Tootsie Rolls for breakfast. I enjoyed that for about four minutes before I realized for the twelfth time in my life that candy can't suffice for breakfast because my stomach doesn't wake up and demand attention til about 10:30AM.

I liked my day at work today because it was spent listening to my new music on my iPod. Victory!

Yeah? Well I can... um... I can... tap my head and rub my tummy and the same time. HA!

i can tell that we are gonna be friends.

Me: "I like how the Pokemon, Ekans, is snake spelled backwards."

Steve: "I don't want to brag, but I knew that back in 5th grade."

Me: "So did I... I was just... saying."

Steve: "Uh-huh, I'm sure you did."

Me: "From now on when I sneeze, i'm going to put some Pikas in front of it, like: Pika... pika... (at this point my eyes would be gradually closing) pik...ACHOO!"

Steve: "I'm choosing not to respond to that."

    ----

Up until this point my life, I thought I wanted to be an Interior Designer. Then, Jack Johnson's, We're Going To Be Friends, shuffled onto my iPod. Does anyone still listen to Jack Johnson? When it came on my imagination perched me on it's back and carried me away. If I was a kindergarten teacher I would be Miss K. I would line the students up and measure their height everyday and keep a chart of how many teeth they've lost and wait patiently for my TEACHER APPRECIATION gifts. I would probably even be guilty of starting classroom rumors to turn the kids against each other, you know, for in-class entertainment.

Now, I can't decide between playing house in other people's houses and getting paid for it or pulling crayons (cray-on not CRAN) out of children's noses.

Aaaaaand crayon nose pulling wins. Only because the idea of helping with arts & crafts and getting the glue on my hands and peeling it off is too enticing.

Reader, I've been blogging since February and I just discovered the joy of Scheduled posts brings. How did I miss this? I regret to inform you that you'll probably never read a live post again. Actually, that's not true. I apologize, I take that back.

"Local bull seeks revenge, leaves several injured and wet."

i just choked on a big ball of regret.

Reader, I regret choosing the name of my blog as quickly as I did. I feel the same way I do when I shout BINGO prematurely. I also wish my blog was anonymous. Fiddlesticks, anonymous is an obnoxious word to spell!

I fantasize of all the names that could've been for my corner of the internet. It's too late now. If I were to change Just Add Kaleena now, it would be the equivalent of picking up a 13 year old dog from the pound who has responded countless times to the name, DeShawn (day-shaw-n) and suddenly renaming him..... Spot. It's something you don't do! People would be left scratching their heads, DeShawn would have an identity crisis etc.

Put the bag of Doritios down, close your eyes and imagine this. You are en route to my blog and something is different. You are no longer reading Just Add Kaleena. You could be reading:

    Just Minus Kaleena
    Just Divide Kaleena
    Behind Green Eyes
    Captain's Blog
    Paint it Black
Why Are You Looking At This Blog When You Could Be Reading or Re-enacting Harry Potter?
Warning: Blog is missing interesting content.

You see? Only some of those were for real... but I won't say which ones.

Attention: I want to declare that I will only follow your blog if I'm sincerely curious of what you have to express. I'm not one of those bloggers who will follow to get a follower.  Kthanksbye.

FWD: An email forward for a blog post.

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Nothing sucks more than the moment during an argument when you realise you're wrong.

Have you ever been walking down the street and realised that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one close by thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the pavement.

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?

Sometimes, I'll watch a film that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realise I had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.

I think everyone has a film that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

Rubbing the batteries always releases more power. Always.

Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say"

I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.

I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

    Bad decisions make good stories.

Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the present you knew Santa could never afford . .546 pictures!? Don't mind if I do!

Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, you get so incredibly nervous? I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my document that I’m sure I did not make any changes to.

"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? F@#k sake!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my itunes.

As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

I wonder if the police ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

    35 beginner buffalo, 15 bbq.

Have you ever sneezed while looking straight up with your head? Ouch. I just did.... on... accident.

Do you know what is better than absorbing fifty chicken wings? Devouring fifty chicken wings.

The Wing Coop [insert angelic chorus here] has this thing. It's not just any thing. It's a deal called the All American. You get fifty wings with your choice of sauce and three large sides. (I promise this is all going somewhere).

Yesterday, one thing led to another and at about 6:30PM, Steve and I found ourselves eagerly skipping and whistling through our door with fifty wings with our choice of sauce and three large sides. While we were nibbling on the wings, I saw an orange thingy on my white scarf. I thought, Wow, I've been so captivated by these wings I didn't see I was dripping buffalo sauce and ruining items around me. Upon further inspection, what I saw made #6 on my "Most Scary Encounters With Spiders" list. An orange spider. On my scarf. Just there, like it was wanted. I got up and locked the doors, we couldn't risk having any more spiders coming in.

I spent the rest of the night balled up on the couch, with orange lips and finger tips.

    Hiking: You're doing it wrong.

Pac Man: "Dove Chocolates --- NOM. NOM. NOM."

"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer."

"The more I see of mankind, the more I like dogs."

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

"Worry gives a small thing a big shadow."

"If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman."

    Sunday, October 10, 2010

it's my blog, i'll make a hate list if i want to.

I hate washing the spatula after I make scrambles eggs. I swear, when eggs and heat mix, it creates some sort of super duper glue that will not come off my spatula. Then, said spatula gets drop kicked into the sink where it will soak  and mock me until I'm ready to face it in a dual.

I hate when me and Steve eat a 30 pound (not really) cheesecake in two days and I don't know whether to brag or hang my head in shame... or go buy another one. I'll be right back...

I hate that I went 21 years before experiencing the Back to the Future series. My 21 years now seem meaningless. My life has more color, my food has more taste.

I hate when I have nothing else to blog about so I have to join the emo teens and make hate lists.

I hate that I was laying down in bed this morning eating M&M's, out of breath from the walk to get them.

I hate that I got out of bed just to get M&M's.

I hate that I didn't use the ranch in our fridge for months and the one day I need it... it's one day expired.

Don't you hate it when all you want in life is to sleep in your bed but there is a dinosaur already in it?

So, to all the muggers in the world, here is a sneak peek a head of time, in case you read my blog and want to rob me. I warn you, you will be painfully disappointed... especially if you look in my wallet for money, you'll probably feel obligated to leave me money rather than take it.

What was that? Oooooh! Things in my purse I use day to day? Ooooh, okay, okay. I got it. I was thinking of my other bag....
