in my ears: mars water

Hellooo. What up. How's it going. Hi. Yo. Goodnight. Good morning. I don't know where you are. Etc.

I have a pretty wide music selection, I keep an open mind but I'm also very picky in the type of sound and lyrics I like. Since i'm working on expanding it even farther, even in terms of methods of digesting new albums, I decided to keep track of new favorites or my newest find as I listen to form an opinion. Give it possible rating. For two reasons.

1. It will make me stick to my goal.
2. If you like music or are looking for suggestions, you can give it a listen.

I can't think of  a  title for this feature. It's 2AM and I keep zoning out when I look off to think. Best I got is : IN MY EARS.

That's subject to change. It's lame but it needs a name so I can set it in motion.

In My Ears VOLUME 1
Band: Mars Water
Album: Here We Are
Favorite song: Where the Sun Sets

71 years ago today...

...I wasn't even alive.
But Jim Morrison was born.
So just another reason why December is just a dandy month.

Happy birthday, Jim Morrison. Thank you for everything you and your music has given me. And thank you for changing my life and the world.
I feel like I miss you and I didn't even know you or ever get to meet you. That's just how powerful your poetry and music is.
I love you.

Here are my favorite words of his:

“People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.”

life is a test and i get bad marks.

I looooove music. I always have. When I was little, I would stay up late in my room listening to my radio (the oldies station) just to hear my favorite songs (mostly CCR, Jim Croce, the Byrds, the Beatles). And I remember the feeling of hearing the start of the my favorite song. It was the best feeling in the world. I'm sure music has done more for me than therapy would any day.

To this day, I am still pretty much really into music. I want to somehow create something that has all my favorite lyrics. Can't come up with anything yet.

today is the day...

That I officially decided that my #1 favorite band as of February 4th is....

Brand New

I've never been easy to choose just one band or artist as a favorite because there are so many choices and so much variety.

But after listening to Brand New non-stop for the last two weeks... I knew they were my favorite. Like favorite favorite.

I can listen to them when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm angry, when I'm hurt, when I'm anything and they make it seem like it will all be okay and that I can get out of bed.

Oh and because Jesse Lacey:

the boy who blocked his own shot.

I really love Brand New.

Especially this song.

Ugh.

If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand
Hope you find out what you are; already know what I am
And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again
You can tell me how vile I already know that I am
I'll grow old, start acting my age
It'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate
A crown of gold, a heart that's harder than stone
And it hurts to hold on, but it's missed when it's gone

Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not
I'm glad that you can forgive, only hoping as time goes, you can forget

If it makes you less sad, I'll move out of this state
You can keep to yourself, I'll keep out of your way
And if it makes you less sad, I'll take your pictures all down
Every picture you paint, I will paint myself out
It's cold as a tomb, and it's dark in your room
When I sneak to your bed to pour salt in your wounds
So call it quits, or get a grip
You say you wanted a solution; you just wanted to be missed

Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not
I'm glad that you can forgive, only hoping as time goes, you can forget
So you can forget, you can forget

You are calm and reposed
Let your beauty unfold
Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones
Spring keeps you ever close
You are second-hand smoke
You are so fragile and thin, standing trial for your sins
Holding on to yourself the best you can
You are the smell before rain
You are the blood in my veins

Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not
I'm glad that you can forgive, only hoping as time goes, you can forget.

I mean, I love Brand New for obvious reasons. I like my music to have depth and meaning. Jesse Lacey is very great at both. He is a lyrical genius and most of his songs have deeper meaning than what the lyrics say. I LOVE YOU.

i'm 23 and this the coolest thing that has happened to me probably.

I just want to let it be known...

That this morning when I checked my Instacrack (Instagram, but it's addicting like crack)...

It said I had a request from someone who wished to follow me.

Will you please guess who it was?

.......

REEL BIG FISH.

The official account for Reel Big Fish.

Reel Big Fish is now following me on the Instagrams.

Oh, and Reel Big Fish just happens to me on my top 10 favorite bands. If you don't know them, Youtube them. (Where Have You Been?, She Has a Girlfriend Now, Beer, Trendy, Sell Out, Your Guts)

At first, I was like... hmm, well maybe they just are freakin' awesome and just follow all their fans back. But nope. I checked and they are only following 60-ish people. They are still awesome though.

I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that this is easily the coolest thing that has happened to me... besides that one time I got a personal shoutout on the Elvis radio station on SIRIUS Radio.

I saw Reel Big Fish in concert just this summer and they are great live. Here is photo evidence:

an early morning math equation and song.

Me being up and awake before 6:30am my usual wake up time + every single light on in the apartment + me calling my mom and my sister Shandey and waking them up + the TV on just so it's not quiet in here = I was hearing scary, creaky, creepy noises. ALL. NIGHT. LONG. So I finally got up and gave up on the idea of me getting any sleep.

And now. The moment you've all been waiting for. A song that I made up. A song made up before 7am will surely not disappoint... actually I'm not entirely sure how true that statement is. You decide.

Ahem. Sing to the tune of "Rain, Rain, Go Away."

Ghosts, ghosts, go away.
If you never come back, well, that will be okaaay.

You're welcome.

the king lives.

Happy Birthday Elvis!
In honor of your birthday,
I will wear my Elvis shirt.
Listen to all your CD's.
Watch your movies.
Elvis, I love you.

If I was alive when you were alive and famous,
I would definitely be one of those insane girls at your concerts trying to climb on stage and fighting the security guards.
I would be the reason they would have to invent a restraining order.

lemon tree.

Reader, I'll be honest with you. Out of all the people on this planet, I probably make the greatest music playlists. One song that seems to be on all my playlists is Lemon Tree by Peter, Paul & Mary. I love the lyrics:

When I was just a lad of ten, my father said to me,
"Come here and take a lesson from the lovely lemon tree."
"Don't put your faith in love, my boy", my father said to me,
"I fear you'll find that love is like the lovely lemon tree."

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day beneath the lemon tree, my love and I did lie
A girl so sweet that when she smiled the stars rose in the sky.
We passed that summer lost in love beneath the lemon tree
The music of her laughter hid my father's words from me:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

One day she left without a word. She took away the sun.
And in the dark she left behind, I knew what she had done.
She'd left me for another, it's a common tale but true.
A sadder man but wiser now I sing these words to you:

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
